i know u combines tribal rhythms, pounding bass, insistent synth stabs, some distressed dialogue and a insanely large crash in the most maniacal way imaginable for what has to be one of the most devastating and original tunes for a very long time. sparse and spacious but yet rhythmical and energetic, lxc manages the ultimate arrangement balancing act here. the intensity increases gradually as the track progresses, culminating in an all-out tribal war ! a modern day jungle masterpiece from one of the most under-estimated producers around. on the flip, senses finally unleashes a track that decimated the very first technicality all-nighter back in 2004. 8 years later and that power is still very much in evidence! everybody want go heaven. nobody want dead – taking influence from the 1990 film marked for death, senses builds a dense vibe here, thick with imminent danger. rolling drums soon give way to a energetic ride-heavy break and pounding sub-bass hits. drum rolls drop and mentasms screech before the storm begins to subside half way through. the respite is brief however and after a complete silence the track reassembles, beginning with some insane slow to fast mentasm pitching which continues as a dark, slick reece begins to build with mysterious atmospherics. the tension is cut by the return of the drums – rolling along at first, before the mentasms and subs hit hard again, signaling a percussive onslaught! jungle just got catapulted into 2012.

any fan of drum & bass will know the name cyantific. having built a reputation as a leader of the new school d&b generation, jon stanley is now approaching a decade of releasing incredible music thats equally at home on the dance floor as it is on your ipod or in your car. last year saw cyantific unleash an incredible single for ram records, as well as bounce it / obey on his own self-titled cyantific record label. here we have the follow up to that release and its undoubtedly another exciting 12 inch, packed with plenty of cyantifics trademark energy. effortlessly combining sharp production skills with graceful musicality, you can always be assured that a new cyantific record is one to watch out for and this new single is certainly no exception. mirador takes the lead, opening with huge sweeping sound fx and a bouncing synth line that harks back to a classic ram sound. its not long before you notice cyantifics signatures though, as he brings in vocal snippets and washing pads that gradually build and grow before a monster bassline drops into the mix. this one undeniably straddles the line between restrained musical class and outright dance floor mayhem. on the flip side defect comes in at an infinitely more paranoid level. strings are infused with urgency and rolling breaks thunder along, dragging you kicking and screaming towards the inevitable drop. you wont be disappointed when it hits either, grinding bassline sections are juxtaposed with obsessive synths, all pulling you deeper into cyantifics musical world.

disco mali! sofrito present a unique slice of afro-disco from the celebrated griot, niama makalou, recorded in the late 70s.
descended from a family of griots (traditional malian praise singers), niama makalou moved to france in the mid 70s where she cut this, her one and only vinyl release. at the time paris (like much the rest of the world) was swept up in disco fever, so along with a group of malian musicians the date was set to cut a piece of disco, griot style. the resulting mixture of off kilter hand claps, raw string arrangements, balafon flourishes and bambara vocals combine with a heavy disco groove to produce a one-off piece of cross-cultural dancefloor mayhem.
on the flip daphni (aka caribou) crafts an extended version that distills it into a stripped down and dubbed out groove.

gabriel andruzzi, multi-instrumentalist and core member of dfas beloved the rapture, debuts his solo moniker dj druzz vs. omega mus on his own throne of blood imprint. designed for maximum dancefloor impact, >apeman< reveals new shades of primal funkiness hitherto unexplored by man... the title track thumps along with a swagger in its step, while tambourines, deep toms and simian grunts rattle and shake into rhythmic abandon. meanwhile, audacious, finely-detuned synth acrobatics form the backbone of the track and evoke a sense of careening blindly through the jungle canopy.

grinch presents a collection of deep productions with dark, spaced-out tone, for his first solo ep. the title track sets the mood with a minimal, devilish bouncing shimmer, that grows into a subby monster in no time. the vibe changes with pulling teeth dropping us into a spacious ambience, with ghost tones of varying frequencies. on the flip, genjutsu, a heart pumping rhythm with knife edge minimal percussion. the final tune, 1:45am is reminiscent of a dark sci-fi nightmare scene and followed by waking up in a terrifying, cold sweat. together the tracks teeter along the lines of techno with dubstep influences.

evolution takes a lot of time to achieve the best results. in his track, mr raoul k uses the concept of evolution to travel with you through this musical journey. every section of the track seems to evolve. simple patterns grow into complex patterns. more instruments join in. some stay, some are dropped after a few bars. listen closely and you can follow mr raoul ks on his path along the production process. the only sound, that accompanies you throughout the track is the choir that chants in an ancient african language - the world is nothing without humanity. the track closes with some minutes of beats for your mixing pleasure. choose vinyl!

long waited 4th ep from japanese deep house force pan records is here. unlike precious releases, this is volume 1 of its various artist sampler series. all 3 of them are scheduled to be released in 2012. first track to open the series is >flash back< by sai. this japanese producer has been favored and debuted from morris audio in 2010. the track has dreamy and floating feel to start off with, later it gets more grove going with subtle vocal goes behind. stays musical yet feels minimal, a2 also kept the vibe from a1 and makes you stay in the dreamland. it is by only the non-japanese artist on this wax, dennis uprock aka resoe from denmark. he is the owner of baum records and one half of the duo >pattern repeat< and this rather timeless track exactly demonstrated his years of experience in producing. >future progress<, is true and honest to its name. dj pi-ge is one of the owner of the label along side of ryo murakami and sisi. he provides a track with punchy synth and revered black man’s vocal. notably slow teasing build up from the beginning till the end, this is an interesting addition to the ep. attention grabbing. last of all, >rising moon< is by tokyo based artist naoki shinohara, previously released from xdbs metrolux music. this track can be described by strong hart beat like hi hats and soul filling melody. its a perfect closer to this quality deep house ep from the land of rising sun.

very welcome remastered reissue of the ultra-rare 1982 cut >you cant have it from cult nyc boogie label tnt unlimited inc. mixed by the legendary tony humphries, this excellent cut is hugely dancefloor-friendly featuring a massive feisty vocal performance along with some top bongo action and a killer groove. backed with a superb dubbed-out instrumental version, this is a stone-cold killer and deserves a place in any serious boogie or funk collection. essential!
